HCDCC Awards 2019 Scholarship
Harney County Democrats Chair, Lynn Mcclintock, awarded Burns High School Senior, Christian Boyd, a $500 scholarship for 2019 at the regular monthly meeting on August 12, 2019. Christian is off to the University of Oregon in the fall to study music. The Democrats scholarship award is for an outstanding liberals graduate currently administered through the Dollars for Scholar program.

Jeanne Atkins Fundraiser Dinner
|
Jeanne Atkins, Chair of the Democrat Party of Oregon, visited with Harney County Democrats, Monday, April 16. We met at the Senior Center Library Room at 6:00 PM. Soup, bread, and set ups were provided. Attendees brought a salad or desert to share. Twenty seven people attended. Jeanne gave an update on the state party including the recent party platform convention. A lively discussion ensued which included local issues. It was a great evening and we are thankful that Jeanne and her husband, John, were able to come to Harney County.

March for Our Lives

With all the many mass shootings at schools and public gatherings, the most recent that killed 17 classmates in Parkland, Florida, thousands of students and victims in this country are saying enough is enough and thousands are joining them. Their message is around gun reform, public safety and saving lives. They are stepping up because they feel adults are not. They are asking legislators to start addressing common sense gun reform to keep their school safe and save lives. About thirty of us marched to support that message of common sense gun control.

Harney County Dems hosted five of the seven Democrat candidates running in the May primaries for the 2nd Congressional Seat. Winner goes up against the Republican incumbent.

First Annual Picnic

About 25 people attended the reunion of Democrats from Harney and Grant Counties. There was lots of good food and conversation. The Chair of CD2 and her husband came from Asheville to attend. After lunch the musicians brought out guitars and autoharp and made music and sang. It was a lovely afternoon and we decided to make it an annual event. Photos by Susan Church and Terry Keim.
